PhD supervision

I am currently lead supervisor for two doctoral projects. The first is an AHRC-funded collaborative doctoral project in partnership with the National Theatre of Scotland, focusing on contemporary socially-engaged practices. The second is a project focusing on the politics and aesthetics of linguistically diverse performances in contemporary Scotland. I am also second supervisor for an PhD funded by the University of Glasgow College of Arts and Humanities exploring new approaches to studying, creating and publishing performance work that straddles and exceeds the traditions of dramatic playwriting and live art.

I welcome visiting doctoral researchers wishing to conduct research at the University of Glasgow for periods between 3-12 months. I have supported visiting PhDs from the University of Barcelona (2019, 2024), and from Shanghai Theatre Academy (2024-25) in this way. You can find out more about this here.

I have examined PhD projects at the University of Glasgow, the University of St Andrews/Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Birmingham City University, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and the University of Western Australia.

I very much welcome enquiries from potential PhD candidates interested in pursuing their project at the University of Glasgow focusing on any of these fields:

  • Contemporary British playwriting, theatre & performance.
  • Contemporary European theatre & performance, especially in the Spanish/Catalan context.
  • Political theatres, socially-engaged theatre practice and delegated performance.
  • Theatre and political/cultural theory.

You can email me to discuss your project at Cristina.DelgadoGarcia@glasgow.ac.uk
